Laws Wins Mayo Clinic 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award

Edward Laws Jr., MD, FACS

Edward Laws Jr., MD, FACS, director of the Pituitary/Neuroendocrine Center in the Department of Neurosurgery was honored with a 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Mayo Clinic for his outstanding attributes and accomplishments as a leader in all aspects of his field.

Established in 1981, the Distinguished Alumni Award acknowledges and shows appreciation for the exceptional contributions of Mayo alumni to the field of medicine, including medical practice, research, education and administration.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Laws is a leading expert on brain and pituitary cancer. He was a staff neurosurgeon at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., from 1972 to 1987, and a professor at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Over the course of his surgical career, he has operated on more than 8,000 brain tumors, including 6,000 pituitary tumors, and served as president of several major neurosurgical organizations, including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the World Federation of Neurological Societies, the American College of Surgeons and the Pituitary Society. He is also a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
