Julie E. Buring, ScD, of the Division of Preventive Medicine, was recently awarded the Barbara J. McNeil Faculty Award for Exceptional Institutional Service to Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM).
This award recognizes faculty and staff members whose exemplary contributions have set the standard for service at HMS/HSDM through their personal initiative to serve their communities and engage others to do the same.
Buring’s research primarily focuses on the epidemiology of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and cancer, specifically in women. Throughout her career, she’s participated in the design and implementation of many large-scale randomized clinical trials investigating the prevention of chronic diseases.
The Awards for Exceptional Service were established to recognize the value of service to the Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. The substantial contributions made by faculty and staff to institutional service are vital to advancing the missions of the HMS and the HSDM.
