Siddiqi Wins 2021 Leading Research Achievements Award

Shan Siddiqi, MD, MBBS

Shan Siddiqi, MD, MBBS, of the Department of Psychiatry, was awarded the 2021 Leading Research Achievements Award from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation for his study titled, “Brain simulation and brain lesions converge on common causal circuits in neuropsychiatric disease.”

Siddiqi’s study evaluated whether brain circuits damaged by brain lesions that caused major depressive symptoms are similar to circuits modified by brain stimulation therapies to treat depression. He aims to apply this research to identify new treatment targets for depression and psychiatric disorders.

More broadly, Siddiqi’s research focuses on neuroimaging, neuroinformatics, brain stimulation and neuropsychiatry.

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation is committed to alleviating the suffering caused by mental illness by awarding grants that contribute to advances and breakthroughs in scientific research.
