Libby to Be Honored with AHA Paul Dudley White Award

Peter Libby, MD

Peter Libby, MD, of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, will receive the American Heart Association’s Paul Dudley White Award in recognition of his pioneering work in unraveling the role of inflammation in cardiovascular disease.

Since 1974, the Paul Dudley White Award has been given annually to a Boston physician who has made extraordinary contributions to cardiovascular or stroke care. The award is named in memory of one of Boston’s most revered cardiologists, Paul Dudley White, MD, a founder of the American Heart Association who is regarded as a pioneer in the field of preventive cardiology.

Libby, a cardiovascular specialist at the Brigham and the Mallinckrodt Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, has contributed more than three decades of research ranging from basic science studies to the translation of inflammation in vascular disease to clinical practice. He has also helped organize and lead large-scale clinical trials that have shown the benefits of targeting this process, including the prevention of recurrent heart attacks.

Libby will receive the Paul Dudley White Award at the Boston Heart and Stroke Ball on April 30.

The AHA is the country’s oldest and largest voluntary organization committed to addressing heart disease and stroke.
