Di Carli and Seely Receive HMS 2022 William Silen Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Awards

Marcelo F. Di Carli, MD, executive director of Cardiovascular Imaging and chief of the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, and Ellen W. Seely, MD, director of Clinical Research in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension and vice chair for Faculty Development in the Department of Medicine, were both honored with 2022 William Silen Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Awards from Harvard Medical School (HMS). These awards recognize their work and dedication as mentors over the course of their career. 

This award is named in honor of William Silen, MD, who served as the first dean for Faculty Development and Diversity at HMS. Throughout his career, Silen influenced the future of academic medicine through his caring mentorship of generations of talented trainees and faculty, which aimed to help them attain their full potential. 

Seely’s research focuses on unique cardiovascular risk factors in women, with a focus on the pregnancy complications of preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. In addition to her research, Seely is deeply dedicated to supporting faculty development at the Brigham, mentoring individuals and developing mentoring programs. Di Carli’s research uses advanced imaging tools to improve understanding of pathophysiology and management of ischemic heart disease and heart failure. Di Carli has shown an outstanding commitment to mentorship of young generations of clinician-scientists.
