Brigham and Women's Hospital Earns Lown Institute 'A' Grade in Patient Safety

Brigham and Women's Hospital was awarded an "A" in Patient Safety from the Lown Institute in the 2022 Lown Hospitals Index. This recognition highlights the hospital's commitment to avoiding preventable patient safety errors and providing exceptional care. In addition to earning an A grade, the Brigham was ranked fourth in Massachusetts for patient safety on the index.

The Lown Institute Hospitals Index independently evaluated more than 3,600 hospitals nationwide and graded hospitals based on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services indicators, including rates of pressure ulcers, accidental punctures and central intravenous line infections for hospital admissions.

The Lown Institute is a nonpartisan think tank that seeks to bridge the gap between existing public policy and the care that Americans need and deserve. It conducts research, convenes experts and sparks public debate to create a better American health system.
