Warraich Named Senior Clinical Advisor to FDA Commissioner

Haider Warraich, MD


Haider Warraich, MD, of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, was appointed senior clinical advisor for Chronic Disease to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Robert M. Califf, MD. 

In this role, which Warraich will maintain alongside his clinical work at the Brigham, he will collaborate with FDA leadership and its centers to further policy around drugs, devices, nutrition, tobacco and health artificial intelligence as it pertains to chronic conditions.  

Warraich is a cardiologist, author and researcher who has published more than 150 papers on chronic conditions like heart disease, end-of-life care and health disparities, including original research in The New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA. He frequently writes for The New York Times and The Washington Post, and is the author of the books Modern DeathState of the Heart and The Song of Our Scars

The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products and medical devices.
