Announcing Mass General Brigham Enterprise Pathology

David Louis

We are pleased to announce that effective March 1, we are establishing an enterprise pathology service with a new common governance structure. This collaboration among pathology departments across our system supports our goal of providing seamless integrated care for Mass General Brigham patients.

David Louis, MD, has been appointed Mass General Brigham chief of enterprise pathology and will oversee the new enterprise service, Mass General Brigham enterprise laboratory service (MGBELS). Dr. Louis will continue to serve as chief of the Department of Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he has led the department to become a national leader in molecular diagnostics and pathology informatics. He will also assume the role of chair of the Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on March 1.

Dr. Louis is the Benjamin Castleman Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and a renowned leader in diagnostic pathology. His research on brain tumors and the application of molecular diagnostics to glioma classification has contributed to the worldwide adoption of molecular testing for the management of glioma patients. In addition, Dr. Louis has led multiple international efforts to modernize and standardize brain tumor classification, including those of the World Health Organization over the past 15 years.

Collaborative Approach to Patient Care

In his new role, Dr. Louis will work closely with clinical and administrative leadership across Mass General Brigham to build one innovative, high-quality enterprise service. This streamlined approach to patient care and diagnostic protocols across all of our locations will enable us to provide the highest-quality and most cutting-edge clinical laboratory testing and pathology services for all Mass General Brigham patients.
