General Volunteers

Individuals must be 16 years of age to become a BWH volunteer. Volunteers are asked to make a commitment of at least six months of service.

Most volunteer positions require weekday, daytime availability, however, we do have a few evening and week-end placements. BWH volunteers assist staff in many departments throughout the hospital, such as, but not limited to Central Transport, Wayfinding, Book Cart, and assisting with non-clinical duties on inpatient floors.

Volunteer applicants are required to interview with the Volunteer Program and Training Coordinator, complete application materials and onboarding documentation/ be cleared medically by BWH Occupational Health Services (prior to orientation), submit to a HireRight background check, and attend New Volunteer Orientation (NVO) prior to beginning volunteer placement in the hospital. We will discuss a department placement during your interview.

The links below provide information regarding onboarding documentation, the NVO schedule, and how to schedule an interview:

We look forward to you becoming a member of the BWH volunteer team.
