Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are an integral part of the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
CRNAs are responsible for the preoperative, intraoperative, and immediate post-operative care of patients requiring anesthesia for surgical, medical, therapeutic or diagnostic procedures. Their services are rendered in the main operating rooms, Labor and Delivery, and designated out-of-OR locations such as radiology, cardiac catheterization, angiography, endoscopy, and Foxborough Surgi-Center.
The CRNAs at BWH have full scope of practice, work in a collegial care team model and are afforded with multidisciplinary professional development opportunities. Additionally, BWH CRNAs are able to utilize the support offered by the Senior Nurse Scientists, in the Department of Nursing, for research and quality improvement initiatives. BWH CRNAs play an essential role in the education and advancement of the SRNA Educational Program.
