Categorical Anesthesiology Program

In 2008, the Brigham and Women's Department of Anesthesia introduced a highly competitive PGY-1 year. It is a medicine-based PGY-1 year co-administered with the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). The majority of the rotations are at BWH with a minor number of the rotations at the Veterans Administration Hospital at West Roxbury. There is rigorous reinforcement of the ACGME rules during the internship year. PGY-1s meet regularly with the Anesthesia Program Directors, and are assigned an Anesthesia Big Sib. There is close involvement with the Anesthesia Chief Residents, and all PGY-1s are invited to the Anesthesia Department social events.
