Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine Services

Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine services are offered in both inpatient and outpatient settings at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). Under the leadership of James P. Rathmell, MD, our medical staff, all of whom are faculty members at Harvard Medical School, is comprised of highly-experienced clinicians and researchers. Our multidisciplinary team includes attending anesthesiologists, fellows and residents, researchers and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs).

Many of our clinicians are actively involved in research to improve patient care. This includes research areas such as neural blockade in anesthesia, pain management, preemptive analgesia, and anesthetic and analgesic interactions during surgery and in the immediate postoperative period.
