Neurocritical Care for Newborns

Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists are seeing new and existing patients virtually and in-person as needed.

Expert Care for Newborn Brain Development

Nothing is more important than the care and protection of your newborn’s brain. In our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), world-leading experts in infant neurology provide the best possible start for every baby. Here, members of a multidisciplinary team, including nurses who are specially-trained in neurocritical care, have mastered advanced technologies to identify seizures, monitor brain activity and provide therapeutic “cooling” within hours of birth. After the critical stage, babies graduate to a Growth and Development Unit where they experience sights, voices, and human touch that foster crucial development.

Choose Us for Optimal Care of the Newborn Brain

  • NICU Staff includes international leaders in neonatology and neonatal neurology, specialized nurses, child neurologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons and experts in EEG. They provide diagnosis, care and counseling informed by expertise and compassion.
  • Our research and teaching is shared around the world to introduce state-of-the-art care in neonatal neurology.
  • Advanced technologies include: hypothermia to promote healing after possible stress to the brain; cEEG and aEEG to help identify seizures; near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to monitor tissue oxygen saturation and infusion in the brain; and the first-ever in-unit MRI made specifically for newborns.
  • Our NICU’s sun-lit family-focused design reflects the optimal environment for critically ill infants and their families. Parents can stay with their babies 24/7 in private and semi-private rooms.
