Infertility Services During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Brigham and Women's Hospital community is emerging stronger than ever before. As the number of patients with COVID-19 steadily declines, our Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery is taking a thoughtful approach to safely welcoming back our fertility patients. The health and safety of our patients, their loved ones and staff remains our top priority as we navigate this new normal.

Available Services for New and Existing Patients

Our office is now open for all services, including:

  • In vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • In-person procedural office visits
  • Laboratory testing
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
  • Reproductive surgery
  • Fertility preservation for cancer patients facing urgent cancer treatment
  • Telemedicine consultations: A telemedicine appointment can be coordinated with one of our physicians whether you are a new or existing patient. Telemedicine is a wonderful way to connect with your physician and to develop a diagnostic plan or to decide on a treatment option.

FAQs for Infertility Patients

  • Does COVID-19 impact fertility or pregnancy?
There is little data at present on the effect of COVID-19 on fertility, pregnancy and the newborn, but preliminary observations to date suggest that there is no significant impact.
  • How will you ensure that my eggs/embryos/sperm will remain safe in the lab?
Frozen eggs, embryos and sperm are safely stored in individual containers in liquid nitrogen tanks. The tanks continue to be carefully monitored by laboratory staff.
  • Can my new patient consultation be held effectively via telemedicine?
Yes. Similar to an in-person new patient consult, our providers will speak with you about your concerns and discuss options for treatment.
  • When will I be able to resume treatment with CIRS?
At this time, our offices have resumed all normal operations and are open for clinic and procedural visits, laboratory testing and therapies. All IVF procedures have also resumed.
  • Is it safe to receive in-person fertility care at this time?
The health and safety of our patients, families and staff is our top priority. We are taking a comprehensive approach to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. We know that COVID-19 will be with us for the foreseeable future, so we’ve implemented a Safe Care Commitment to provide the safest possible environment.
  • Are providers still available with Virtual Visits?
Yes. All of our providers are available for both in-person and virtual care at this time.
  • Who should I call if I have a question about my care?
For questions about your care, please call the center at which you normally receive your care at one of the phone numbers above. Our nurses and doctors will help you.
  • How can I learn more about Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s response to COVID-19?
