Center for Weight Management and Wellness

Wanting to lose weight is a common desire, but often the path to significant and long-lasting weight loss can seem unsustainable and be marked with setbacks. It's easy to blame yourself or to think you're not trying hard enough, but the truth is everyone's body is different. There are a number of factors—like biology, genetics and stress—that can make losing weight more difficult for some than for others. Ultimately, this can have a negative impact on physical and mental well-being.

At the Brigham and Women's Center for Weight Management and Wellness, we take a comprehensive approach to weight management by focusing on the physical, mental and emotional aspects tied to successful weight loss so that your mind and body are working together to achieve your goals.

We offer three different avenues for achieving meaningful weight loss—surgery, endoscopy, and medically supervised weight loss plans—and we will work with you to develop a personalized approach that best fits your needs. As part of our commitment to your long-term success, we also provide ongoing nutritional and dietary guidance and help identify behavioral strategies for success to ensure that our patients maintain their weight loss over time.

What are the most effective weight-loss treatments? The Center for Weight Management and Wellness at Brigham and Women’s Hospital offers medical treatment, surgical procedures and endoscopic procedures. Patients may choose one or more approach in their weight-loss journey. Caroline M. Apovian, MD, Christopher C. Thompson, MD, and Ali Tavakkoli, MD, discuss the center’s multidisciplinary team, treatment options and individualized, patient-centered care.
