2015 - The Lung Center, a Collaboration of the Divisions of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Thoracic Surgery, Launched. Established The Lung Research Center by the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Division of Thoracic Surgery and Channing Division of Network Medicine.

2013 - Raphael Bueno, MD Leads Team in Some of First Real-Time Image-Guided Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery (iVATS) Wedge Resections in United States

2010 - First Ex Vivo Human Lung Perfusion in United States.

2008 - Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), Churg Strauss Syndrome and Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Services Added.

2007 - BWH and National Jewish Medical and Research Center Researchers Awarded $37 Million Grant from National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to Lead COPD Study.

2006 - First DCD Lung Transplant in New England.

2004 - Five Lung Transplants Performed in 36 hours.

2003 - First Clinical Trials of Minimally Invasive Bronchoscopic Lung Reduction Surgery for Emphysema.

2002 - First Living Donor-Related Lung Transplant in New England.

2000 - Country's First Quadruple Transplant: Single Donor Kidney, Lungs and Heart Transplanted into Four Patients.

1999 - New Center for Chest Diseases Meets Need for Ambulatory Respiratory Care.

1997 - Longwood Medical Area Adult Asthma Center Expanded to Partners Asthma Center.

1995 - Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Awarded First NIH Asthma Score Grant.

Nation's First Triple Organ Transplant: Single Donor Lungs and Heart Transplanted into Three Patients.

1993 - Established First General Thoracic Surgery Residency Track in United States.

Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Chosen First NIH Asthma Clinical Research Network Member.

1992 - First Heart-Lung Transplant in Massachusetts.

1990 - First Double Lung Transplant in New England.

First Adult Lung Transplant in Massachusetts.

Lung Transplant Program Launched.

1989 - Longwood Medical Area Adult Asthma Center Founded.

1980 - Brigham and Women's Hospital Formed.

1973 - Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program Started.

1929 - First Polio Victim Saved with Drinker Respirator (Iron Lung) at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Predecessor Hospital of BWH.
