The Lung Center

Our Lung Center Team

The Lung Center is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of specialists who are experts in conditions affecting breathing and the lungs. This dedicated group includes 50 pulmonologists and intensivists and 18 surgeons, along with an experienced and robust team of oncologists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, physician assistants and nurses specializing in pulmonary disease.

Led by Raphael Bueno, chief, Division of Thoracic Surgery, and Bruce Levy, MD, chief, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, The Lung Center team collaborates with referring physicians and with sub-specialties throughout Brigham and Women’s Hospital. This vast resource of expertise ensures that all of our patients’ health needs are met.

Physicians in The Lung Center are faculty members at Harvard Medical School who are also actively engaged in scientific research, leading to better understanding, treatment and prevention of respiratory disease.

Thoracic surgeons are board certified in thoracic surgery and general surgery with specializations in minimally invasive surgery, surgical oncology, transplant surgery and more. They are the thoracic surgical oncology team for Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center.

Pulmonologists are board certified in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine, caring for patients with common and complex respiratory illnesses, including transplant patients and those in intensive care units. They provide pulmonary expertise to Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center and Spaulding Rehabilitation.

Faculty and Physicians

Physician Assistants

Physician assistants obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, assist in surgery, perform procedures, prescribe medications, order and interpret lab tests, and provide patient education and counseling.

Nurses

Nurses may be trained in thoracic surgery or are pulmonary or respiratory nurses. They manage patient care in the outpatient and inpatient settings and after discharge.
