Watson Caring Science Institute

Recognizing Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s exceptional commitment to caring practices, the Watson Caring Science Institute has invited usto become one of 13 international affiliates — the only one in New England.

To become a Watson Caring Science Institute Affiliate, an organization must demonstrate deep-rooted and sustainable commitment to integrating caring science within practices and policies, seeking to transform and broaden the notion of health and healing for its staff as well as the patients, families and communities it serves.

Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, nurse theorist and founder of the institute, is best known for her Theory of Human Caring/Caring Science. The institute selects affiliates that advance this theory, which includes developing helping, trusting, caring relationships; using scientific problem-solving methods for caring decision-making; and creating a healing environment for the physical and spiritual self.
