As part of our ongoing service to referring physicians, we provide the following referral options.

Physician Referral Service and Patient Appointments

Our trained coordinators can facilitate consultations and second opinions. If you are unsure of which Brigham and Women's physician to contact, the coordinator can direct you to the appropriate faculty member. The Physician Referral Service is staffed Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. After hours, you may leave a message which will be returned promptly on the next business day.

Inpatient Transfers

Through the Mass General Brigham Patient Transfer and Access Center (PTAC), providers can now request a transfer from their acute care hospital to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, or one of our acute care community hospitals—all with a single phone call.

The Online Physician Directory provides profiles of all physicians and specialists at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Mass General Brigham Physician Gateway

With Physician Gateway, keeping track of your patients has never been easier. Through this secure platform, medical professionals can monitor the status of your patients who are receiving care within Mass General Brigham, as well as Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Once you enroll in Physician Gateway, medical professionals will have access to your patients' information 24/7 in an intuitive, easy-to-read format, including:

  • Visit notes
  • Radiology reports
  • Discharge summaries
  • Test results
  • Medications
  • Allergies
  • Visit history
  • Provider of care

This information will help you keep up to date on your patient’s status and will make the transition back into your care as smooth as possible. Physician Gateway is available for primary care providers, referring medical professionals, and authorized office staff.

Care Coordination

The Care Coordination Department provides discharge planning, utilization management, and psychosocial care services throughout a patient's stay. The process includes continuous communication between the patient and family, Brigham and Women's Hospital physician, the referring physician, and the insurer. Care Coordination staff assist all patients through their stay at our hospital, however, physicians recognizing a particular need for service prior to a patient's admission may make a referral directly to the department at the above numbers, Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5pm. During evenings and weekends, call the page operator at (617) 732-6660 and ask for the care coordinator on call.
