Department of Medicine

Department of Medicine Education and Training

At Brigham and Women’s Hospital we are dedicated to providing educational opportunities for established physicians and clinicians as well as the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.

The education programs within the Department of Medicine are among the most revered nationally and internationally, with over 180 rotating Harvard Medical School students, 205 medical residents, and 160 clinical fellows each year. Residency alumni populate prominent positions in prestigious medical centers throughout the world, including more than 600 professors of medicine, many division chiefs and department chairs, and academic leaders serving in a variety of roles. One-quarter of the chairs of U.S. departments of medicine spent some portion of their training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Innovation in education remains a core function of premier academic programs, and the Department of Medicine continues to be committed to efforts in this area.
