Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Department of Medicine (DOM) is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and antiracism work. We are focused on promoting culture change and community building, enhancing recruitment and retention, and advancing the careers of underrepresented in medicine (URiM) residents, fellows, and faculty as well as women faculty and trainees.

DOM Recruitment, Retention, and Support

Recruitment, Retention, and Support

The DOM's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts focus on the recruitment and retention of residents, faculty, and fellows from backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine (URiM). We also focus on the advancement of the careers of women faculty. We have developed and implemented a wide array of programs to support the career development and advancement of URiM and women trainees and faculty.

Current Work

We have undertaken initiatives to promote cultural change at the department and hospital level, including racial justice training for faculty, residents, and fellows, and bystander training to combat and address microaggressions. We are committed to communicating this work and the many accomplishments of our URiM community through our URiM Faculty and Trainee Directories, Twitter account, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion website.

We foster a vibrant community of URiM residents, fellows, and faculty through innovative career development programs, mentorship programs, and events that promote networking and connection, including special programs tailored to early career URiM and women faculty. We aim to ensure that our large and growing community of URiM faculty and trainees are a vital component of the overall DOM community who are celebrated, welcomed, valued, and respected.
