Message from Division Chief David E. Cohen, MD, PhD
Welcome to the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital! Our division is committed to providing world-class, patient-centered care for individuals with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, biliary tree and pancreas, while advancing the field through cutting-edge research and fostering the next generation of leaders through our educational programs.
In addition to general gastroenterology, our ambulatory clinical services include specialty clinics for patients with pancreatic disease, biliary and liver disease (including evaluation for liver transplantation offered through the combined Mass General Brigham Liver Transplant Program), inflammatory bowel diseases and gastrointestinal complications of cancer treatments.
We are a national and international leader in interventional endoscopy services for gastrointestinal oncology, inflammatory bowel diseases, pancreatobiliary and esophageal diseases, obesity management, foregut endoscopic surgery, endohepatology and endoscopic submucosal dissection. Brigham and Women’s Hospital is one of the few centers in the country to offer this entire breadth of interventional endoscopic services and the only one in New England.
The division’s wide-ranging research program encompassing basic, clinical and translational sciences. The aim of these programs is a greater understanding of the full range of digestive diseases, with the ultimate goal of finding novel therapeutic approaches.
Education is another core component of our mission, and we are committed to educating the next generation of gastroenterologists and hepatologists. In addition to intensive clinical training, our three-year gastroenterology fellowship program provides intensive clinical and basic research experiences, support in part by an NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein Institutional National Research Service Award (T32). In addition, we offer advanced fellowship training in advanced endoscopy, bariatric endoscopy, advanced IBD, and most recently medical pancreatology.
