Physical Examinations

A physical examination is usually performed for new and established patients to assess their overall health and wellness on an annual basis. Part of this appointment could also include tests that are appropriate for your gender and age, such as pelvic exams, pap smears, breast exams, rectal and prostate exams, etc. Also, if blood tests or other items such as skin tests, urine analysis, or x-rays may be necessary, your doctor will order them, and they can be done within this facility, most on a same day basis. Other tests which are recommended for some people after physical examinations, such as mammograms, EKGs, echocardiogram, treadmill tests, etc. can also be done within Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital.

School, Camp, Sports or Health Club Physical Examinations

Please see the physical examinations section above. As always, it is a good idea to call to schedule these examinations at least a month before they are required.

Examinations for Certificates

As of May 2014, all Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examinations must be conducted by a medical provider that has been licensed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). For the benefit of our patients, our physician assistant, Kristen Nuspl, has been licensed by the FMCSA so that we can continue to offer DOT physical exams to our patients. If you are coming in for a DOT physical exam, please make sure to fill out the necessary paperwork as completely as possible. Click here for a printable copy of the DOT examination form.

In addition, our providers will conduct exams to help patients maintain teaching or day care licenses, and most other such exams. This also includes the blood test and certificate required to obtain a marriage license in Massachusetts. Please see also the physical examination section above. As always, it is best to call to schedule these examinations well before the date they are required.

Prescription Refills

After you have seen your primary physician at BPP, your prescriptions may be renewed two ways:

  • Call 617-983-7300, and follow the voice instructions:
  1. Select option 1 from the main menu
  2. Select option 1, 2, or 3, depending upon your physician

**Please leave the following information on this voice mail line: your name, your BWH ID number (or your date of birth), your telephone number, your pharmacy name and location (telephone number, if you have it), and the name of the medication you want to renew, the dose of that medication you take, how often you take it, and how many pills or tablets you want. (For instance, "I take Zestril 20 milligram tablets once a day, please give me 30"). Renewal by telephone can be very convenient for medications you take on a regular basis. It may take 24 hours for the prescription to be called in, so don't wait too long to call.**

  • Patient Gateway: If you do not have a Gateway account, click here to sign up and begin taking advantage of the many conveniences it offers our patients.

**Certain renewals should not be requested over the phone or Patient Gateway, such as antibiotics or controlled substances (like narcotics) or medications you have not taken before. These requests should be discussed with your doctor first.**
