Health Equity Education Initiatives

The Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is committed to the education and training of future physicians through residencies, fellowships, collaborations with colleagues at sites globally, as well as through courses, cases and online communities.

Residency in Global Health Equity

The Doris and Howard Hiatt Residency in Global Health Equity was created to address the growing interest among young physicians to dedicate their careers to improving the health of impoverished populations in the U.S. and abroad.

This comprehensive program includes:

  • Training in internal medicine
  • Coursework in research methods, public policy, and global health advocacy
  • Research and patient-care experiences in impoverished settings at sites around the world

Cardiovascular Disease and Global Health Equity Fellowship

The Cardiovascular Medicine Division, in collaboration with the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital offers advanced fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) and Global Health Equity (GHE).

The CVD and GHE Fellowship prepares trainees to be academic leaders in the areas of clinical innovation, education, and research addressing the cardiovascular burden among populations living in extreme poverty.

Continuing Medical Education Courses

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) Course, “Understanding Global Healthcare Delivery,” is taught through lectures and case discussions, and provides participants with an understanding of the complexities of delivering healthcare in low-resource settings.

Global Health Delivery Intensive Course

The Global Health Delivery Intensive Program (GHDI) is a three-week program with classes in epidemiology, management science, and health care delivery. The GHDI is intended for mid-career global health professionals who seek training in global health delivery concepts and skills.

Victor Dzau Lecture in Global Health Equity

Each year, the Victor Dzau Lecture features a leader in global health to discuss research, clinical work or an innovative and replicable approach to improving healthcare delivery.

Monthly Grand Rounds

The Global Health Equity Grand Rounds provides an interactive forum for both speakers and attendees to stay abreast of their colleagues' work, share best practices, and receive constructive feedback from peers in the global health community.
