Overview of Medical Communications

The mission of the Division is to enhance communication among the three major constituents in health care:

  • The people acquiring and codifying knowledge, i.e., people doing research
  • The physician using the information in his or her clinical decisions
  • The patients who could potentially benefit from the application of this new knowledge

To achieve this mission the Division has articulated three major goals:

  • To enhance the ability of members of the Department of Medicine to communicate the results of their academic pursuits to their peers in a variety of formats
  • To enhance the ability of members of the Department of Medicine to communicate the results of their academic pursuits to patients in a variety of formats
  • To enhance the ability of members of the Department of Medicine to communicate important medical information to their patients and their patient’s loved ones
