Christopher D. Anderson, MD, MMSc, FAAN, Division Chief, Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases; Medical Director, Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center, is an expert in Vascular Neurology and Neurocritical Care. Dr. Anderson is Principal Investigator in multiple NIH-funded stroke research studies, as well as the American Heart Association Centers for Excellence in Hemorrhagic Stroke.

Amar Dhand, MD, DPhil, Divisions of Hospital Neurology and Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases. Dr. Dhand has expertise in stroke syndromes, rehabilitation medicine, neuropathic itch, diagnostic reasoning, and social interactions in medicine. He has built novel patient education tools such as the NeuroBoard, a dry erase map of the brain. His research concerns social networks and health outcomes in neurology patients. His goal is to understand and harness social networks to improve patients’ lives.

Gregory J. Allam, MD, Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases. Dr. Allam cares for stroke patients at both Brigham and Women’ Hospital as well as South Shore Hospital, where he is the Director of the Stroke Service. Dr. Allam is a comprehensive neurologist with subspecialty training in multiple fields, with special focus on the prevention and treatment of stroke.

Ali Aziz-Sultan, MD, Chief of Vascular/Endovascular Neurosurgery, is a dual fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in both open and endovascular approaches to cerebrovascular conditions and has extensive expertise in a wide range of innovative techniques to treat aneurysms, stroke and brain tumors. Examples include the use of flow diverter stents to address aneurysms, stent retrievers to achieve high recanalization rates in stroke patients, and chemoembolization to treat brain tumors.

Rose Du, MD, PhD, Director of Cerebrovascular Surgery, is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon in Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery. Dr. Du is an expert cerebrovascular neurosurgeon and specializes in open treatment options. Dr. Du conducts clinical research on cerebral aneurysms, cerebral and spinal arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), cerebral and spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas, moyamoya, cavernous malformations, carotid stenosis, stroke, cerebral aneurysms, and cerebral vasospasm.

Galen V. Henderson, MD, Medical Director of the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, is currently evaluating the incidence, management, and outcome of non-aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, as well as mechanical retrieval for acute ischemic stroke.

Kai U. Frerichs, MD, Director of Endovascular Neurosurgery, is a dual fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in endovascular treatment options. Dr. Frerichs uses leading multimodality approaches for cerebrovascular disease treatment, including coil embolization of cerebral aneurysms, intra-arterial interventions for clot thrombolysis and removal in acute stroke, carotid and intracranial stenting and angioplasty, and cerebral and spinal AVM. Dr. Frerichs’ research focus includes the development of novel neuroprotective strategies for stroke and neurotrauma.
