Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease Services

The Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) provides comprehensive care for patients with all cerebrovascular conditions including stroke. We provide the full range of services, from evidence-based approaches to prevention, to advanced diagnostic testing, to emergency stroke care and the latest medical, endovascular and surgical treatments.

Our board-certified neurologists are fellowship trained with subspecialty expertise in stroke and conditions of the brain and blood vessels. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team which includes emergency physicians, neurocritical care physicians, neurosurgeons, vascular surgeons, radiologists, cardiologists, nurses and rehabilitation specialists. Together, our stroke specialists tailor care to the individual needs of each patient. Our services cover all phases of care for patients with stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases.

Our subspecialty Stroke Clinic pairs patients with vascular neurology physicians for best practices in stroke prevention, both in patients at risk for stroke as well as patients working to prevent stroke recurrence. With access to world-class specialists in cardiology, hematology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, women’s health, and other vital medical specialties, our stroke physicians work diligently with patients and primary care providers to deliver the best care in stroke prevention and treatment.

Patients with life-threatening neurologic and cardiac conditions receive specialized emergency care in our five-bed Emergency Department cardiac-neuro unit. Patients receive advanced stroke diagnosis through state-of-the-art diagnostic testing tools. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists provide the spectrum of medical, endovascular and surgical procedures. Our dedicated interventional neuroradiology suite allows interventionalists to deliver rapid assessment and treatment. Our 20-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit and our affiliation with Mass General Brigham TeleStroke allows stroke specialists to evaluate, diagnose and recommend treatment for patients at remote hospitals.
