Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit

The Department of Neurosurgery hosts one of the largest Neuroscience Intensive Care Units in the country, with 20 hospital beds, 24/7 monitoring, full-time neurological and critical care specialists, and innovative treatment options.

The multidisciplinary team in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit provides support to our neurosurgeons by caring for critically ill patients who suffer from the most common to the most complex neurological disorders. This can range from spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries, to brain infections, seizures, stroke and tumor.

Our comprehensive team utilizes state-of-the-art equipment including on-site CT monitors, intracranial monitors, tissue oxygenation monitors and microdialysis catheters to measure continuous, real-time nervous system biochemistry. Our unit is designed with the patient in mind, and our state-of-the-art technology ensures each patient receives the best possible care.

Your Clinical Team

Each patient is cared for by a multidisciplinary team of specialists who are experts in neurosurgical intensive care. Our specialists include 85 nurses, neuro-radiologists committed to analyzing your imaging, neuro-pathologists devoted to diagnose your tumor types, neuro-anesthesiologists specialized in assisting your surgical treatments, and more. Depending on the patient’s condition, the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit team can consist of:
