Clinical Care at the African Women’s Health Center

The African Women’s Health Center (AWHC) provides culturally and linguistically appropriate obstetric, gynecologic and reproductive health care to African immigrants and refugees. We strive to provide the best clinical care experience for our patients. We provide a variety of services to meet the diverse needs of our patients and offer many tools to help them before, during and after their care. Our patients are seen by culturally competent physicians, nurses, social workers, nutritionists and when needed, psychiatrists. Our team is multicultural and multilingual. If necessary, experienced medical interpreters are available at every appointment with translated patient education materials.

Specific care we provide:

  • Reproductive health
  • Obstetrics
  • Gynecology
  • Defibulation procedures (plastic reconstruction of the scar from female genital cutting)
  • Pregnant patients with diabetes, hypertension and thyroid disease
