The African Women’s Health Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) provides a variety of services to meet the diverse healthcare needs of African immigrants and refugees. Services focus on women who have undergone female genital cutting (FGC), female circumcision, or female genital mutilation. Our Center is the first and only African health practice in the United States that focuses on issues regarding female genital cutting. We offer many tools—clinical, psycho-social and education—to help our patients before, during and after their treatment at BWH.
Our medical staff, all of whom are faculty members at Harvard Medical School, are highly-experienced clinicians and experts in their field. Under the leadership of Nawal M. Nour, MD, MPH, our patients are seen by culturally-sensitive physicians, nurses, social workers, nutritionists and, when needed, psychiatrists. Our team is multicultural and multilingual; experienced medical interpreters are available at every appointment.
