Comprehensive Care Center for Multiples

Every pregnancy is special. But being pregnant with twins, triplets or more is something different. Only 3% of mothers experience a multiple birth. It demands much more of you, physically and emotionally, than a singleton birth. In many cases, it creates unanticipated financial and logistical challenges as well.

While learning you are expecting multiples is certainly a cause for joy, it may also raise a host of questions and concerns. To navigate the world of multiples through pregnancy, delivery and beyond, you and your family need the best team on your side.

Meeting the unique needs of families of multiples is why Brigham and Women's Hospital founded the Comprehensive Care Center for Multiples in 2020. Our center is the first of its kind in Greater Boston and one of only a handful in the United States. We strive to ensure all families feel healthy, confident and cared for as they prepare to welcome their newborns into the world.

This is my first time having a multiple pregnancy and after doing my research I choose Brigham and Women’s for my maternity care. I have to say, they have been by far the best choice I made.” - Tania, patient

Our deep expertise in multiple pregnancy and world-leading care for even the smallest newborns makes the Comprehensive Care Center for Multiples a destination for families expecting a multiple birth. Watch the above video to learn more.

An Unparalleled Experience for Multiples Families

The Center for Multiples is part of a world-renowned hospital that is known for excellence in obstetric care and delivers more multiples than any other institution in Massachusetts. We are housed within the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, which provides exceptional high-risk pregnancy care for women with complications identified prior to or during pregnancy and for their unborn babies.

At the Center for Multiples, you can count on:

  • Expert care: Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists, nurses and staff are experienced in multiple pregnancies and handle even the most complex cases. They understand what you are going through and deliver compassionate care that respects the wishes of you and your family.
  • Comprehensive clinical services: We offer everything you need under one roof, including prenatal care and diagnosis, assessment and treatment of complications, obstetrical ultrasounds, delivery, newborn care and more. Whenever possible, we schedule appointments into one visit to maximize your convenience. We also offer virtual care services where possible.
  • In-depth education: What can you expect during and after a multiple pregnancy? There's a lot to learn, and our team is here to help. We host childbirth classes tailored specifically to families expecting multiples and designed to give you confidence throughout all stages of parenthood.
  • Continuous support: Our support staff, including a dedicated social worker, provides emotional and psychological support from prenatal diagnosis through postpartum. You will also receive expert guidance from a nutritionist and a lactation consultant. In addition, we can connect you with local support groups for multiple families and helpful learning materials from trusted resources.
  • Sophisticated intensive newborn care: Twins, triplets and higher-order multiples often arrive early and require a stay in our Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This state-of-the-art facility, the largest in Massachusetts, is specially equipped to care for premature and seriously ill babies and their families. Designed with multiples in mind, the NICU enables you to be with your babies 24/7 in private or adjoining rooms.
