The Center for Women and Newborns encourages and supports breastfeeding. We recognize that breast milk meets the total nutritional needs of term infants and is the preferred basis of nutrition for premature babies. In addition, breast milk provides anti-infection benefits to newborns, is economical for the family and also contributes to mother/infant bonding.
The department of Nursing, Nutrition, Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology support the World Health Organization/UNICEF Baby Friendly Hospital initiative in the promotion of breastfeeding.

Where can I breastfeed or pump while visiting Brigham and Women’s Hospital?
A freestanding lactation suite is available for use in the waiting area of the Center for Women and Newborns, a public space adjacent to the main lobby on the first floor of 75 Francis Street. The suite offers a safe, private and convenient space for nursing moms to breastfeed and pump breast milk. The suite is wheelchair accessible, equipped with a hospital-grade breast pump, has two comfortable benches, a fold-down table, power outlets, and a door that can be locked for privacy. Nursing moms can locate and unlock the pod with a free app from Mamava and its Bluetooth-enabled SmartLock, available on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android).
