Perinatal Consult Services

The Perinatal Consult Service at the Center for Fetal Medicine and Prenatal Genetics offers high-risk pregnancy consulting services for referring physicians and patients throughout New England, nationwide and international. We are committed to providing physicians and patients integrated and coordinated care for a range of preconception and pregnancy questions.

Consults for a wide range of issues are provided including:

• Women with a preexisting medical condition, such as cancer or diabetes, who want to become pregnant;
• Women who have developed a medical complication during pregnancy;
• Women with a history of prior pregnancy loss including stillbirth;
• Complications that have been identified with the development of the fetus.

For Patients

Patients seeking information about the Perinatal Consult Service, or wishing to schedule an appointment with a maternal-fetal medicine physician, should call (617) 732-4208. This number is staffed 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. We can help patients choose an appropriate physician within the high risk faculty practice and then schedule an initial appointment with that physician. Ambulatory consults can be obtained within 24 hours. For your convenience, bilingual patient representatives are on staff.

For Physicians

To reach a physician for a perinatal consultation, or to receive additional information about maternal-fetal medicine services, call (617) 732-4208. This number is staffed 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. A representative can direct you to the physician with whom you wish to speak, as well as facilitate consultations and second opinions. Mass General Brigham physicians who would like to request a consultation are encouraged to use the Physician Gateway system.

Inpatient transfer services are handled by Mass General Brigham MDConnect. MDConnect is a joint program between Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, serving as a community physician's direct link to the transfer and transport services of these hospitals. With one call, MDConnect will coordinate timely communication between referring and receiving physicians, locate inpatient beds, and arrange transport. Ground-based, mobile ICUs, staffed with specially trained nurses and paramedics, are also available through this service. To reach Mass General Brigham MDConnect call (877) 637-3337.
