Hip and Knee Replacement Program

Our Approach to Hip and Knee Care

Knee and hip pain from osteoarthritis can be debilitating and can prevent you from being as active as you want to be. Our expert knee and hip physicians at the Center for Joint Health and Mobility have helped thousands of patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis achieve greater mobility and experience less pain. The team offers a full range of treatment options, from non-surgical care, like physical therapy and injections, to innovative total and partial joint replacements. We can help you review the advantages of one or more approaches for your unique situation, including preservation, joint replacement surgery, revision, and restoration.

We employ the latest technology, such as custom 3D-printed knee implants, robotic navigation for surgeries, and imaging capabilities that allow us to better evaluate the condition of each patient’s injured joint and recommend a treatment approach tailored to their needs.

Expert Specialists in Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery

If non-surgical treatments haven't provided pain relief, it may be time to consider knee and hip replacement surgery. Our hip and knee replacement surgeons are pioneers in the use of advanced, minimally invasive procedures that are less disruptive to our patients lives, resulting in less pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery. We have replaced the joints of thousands of patients, including former NFL players and Olympic athletes.

Our team will work with you to determine the best surgical treatment approach for you personally based on your individual goals and the condition of your knee, which may include total, partial, minimally invasive, or even outpatient knee replacement. We'll help ensure you have less pain, recover faster and can get back to your life as soon as possible.

Prehabilitation for a Faster Recovery

Our team’s comprehensive approach to joint replacement ensures a smooth, fast recovery before, during and after surgery. We ensure our patients’ health is optimized before surgery by addressing their medical and physical condition.

Through our advanced pre-rehabilitation program, most patients also undergo a pre-rehabilitation exercise program that has been proven to quicken recovery following a hip or knee replacement surgery.

After surgery, we focus on getting patients home fast, with less pain. Advances in pain management allow our clinical team to begin physical therapy shortly after surgery. In addition to preparing all patients for surgery, we work on a plan to ensure the post-surgery realities will be easier to manage.

Same-Day Joint Replacement Option Offers Flexibility

At Brigham and Women's, we understand you may want to get home, on the road to recovery, and back to your life as soon as possible. That’s why we offer same-day (outpatient) joint replacement surgery for patients who meet certain criteria.

If you qualify for same-day surgery, you will have the option to stay in the hospital overnight or go home the same day the surgery takes place, offering you the flexibility to recover in the way that is most convenient to you. Patients who choose to have same-day surgery will also be monitored via regular check-ins with the surgical team, nurses, and PAs to answer questions and ensure a smooth and seamless recovery.

Robot-Assisted Surgery for Hip and Knee Replacements

At Brigham and Women's, our team is dedicated to using state-of-the-art technologies to improve surgical precision, outcomes, and patient satisfaction. Robotic surgery (or robot-assisted surgery) is one of the advanced techniques being used by our surgical team for select knee and hip replacement surgeries.

Our cutting-edge robotic system gives our surgeons access to a 3D model of your joint and provides real-time range-of-motion data during surgery. This information allows our surgeons to tailor their surgical approach to your unique anatomy and guide the movements of the robot to make more precise cuts and improve implant positioning.
