The Orthopaedic Trauma Unit with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery conducts research with the aim of improving diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal trauma. Research within the department is led by the following orthopaedic trauma surgeons at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH).

The Skeletal Biology Laboratory
The Brigham and Women’s Hospital Skeletal Biology Research Laboratory conducts basic, clinical, and translational research associated with skeletal repair, skeletal tissue engineering, and normal and abnormal bone metabolism. The Skeletal Biology Research Laboratory has particular interest in the study of skeletal aging, metabolic bone disease, skeletal tissue engineering, and osteoinductive materials.

The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation supports high-impact research collaborations in areas including limb preservation, muscle and bone regeneration, advanced stem cell technology, orthopaedic and plastic surgery, bioengineering, and emergency preparedness.
