Renal Pathology

The Renal Pathology Service of the Division of Surgical Pathology provides comprehensive diagnostic expertise and services relating to the pathology of medical disorders of the kidney. The Service processes over 1,500 kidney biopsies per year and provides service to the Brigham and Women's Hospital, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a number of local, regional, and country-wide nephrology practices and hospitals, and serves as a referral center for national and international consultations. In addition to conventional histology, the Service routinely utilizes immunofluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy, and offers a variety of specialized immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry tests. Active educational initiatives include daily teaching of students, residents, and fellows, as well as programs for continuing medical education.
