Neuropathology Fellowship

This is a fully accredited two-year training program in adult and pediatric neuropathology. The program is affiliated with Harvard Medical School and based at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and with rotations to the Medical Examiner Office and Mass Eye and Ear.

The trainees develop skills in all aspects of adult and pediatric diagnostic neuropathology, including the interpretation of lesions by light and electron microscopy, enzyme histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry. Additionally, trainees receive training in interpretive genomics and are expected to become proficient at interpreting array comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) data derived from brain tumors and integrating results with traditional histopathology and molecular data. Trainees also participate in teaching fellow residents in related disciplines and medical students at Harvard Medical School. Areas of clinical excellence include neurodegenerative, brain tumor, infectious disease, neuromuscular, neurodevelopment.

Opportunities for research collaborations with Harvard-affiliated research groups are available in the areas of brain tumor biology, cancer genetics including genomic and mutational profiling of adult and pediatric brain tumors, informatics, neurodegenerative disorders, neurotoxicology, and developmental and neuromuscular neurobiology. Faculty members of allied services from all hospitals accept trainees for research training.
