Family Liaison Waiting Area

The Family Liaison Waiting Area is located in the Bretholtz Center in the main lobby of the hospital. Here, our staff uses a computerized tracking system to update family and friends regarding progress of a patient's surgery or other complicated procedure. The staff maintains the name and location of the person to be notified when the patient's procedure is completed, and assigns beepers for those wishing to leave the area. Patients' belongings are logged in and stored until the patient has been assigned to a post-operative room. The family is informed of the room assignment and the estimated time for the patient to be transferred.

The Family Liaison Waiting Area offers

  • A waiting area filled with comfortable chairs and tables
  • A kitchenette
  • A business center with telephones, fax, computers with internet access, phone jacks and a copier machine
  • Leisure activities including reading materials, TV, cards and board games
  • Private areas to rest or have a discussion with your loved one's care providers

Access to the Waiting Area

Family members who arrive with patients are automatically registered with the Family Liaison Service; people arriving later in the day can check in with the receptionist in the Waiting Area. Family members at home can call (617) 732-7440.
