Originally founded in 1974 by Dr. Mary Ellen Avery as the Joint Program in Neonatology, the Harvard Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Training Program has an unparalleled track record of training physician scientists and leaders in Neonatology. Over 200 alumni have held positions at preeminent institutions in the United States and internationally, including leadership positions as Division Chiefs and Pediatric Department Chairs.
Based in the Division of Newborn Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital (BCH), the Harvard Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Training Program (HNPFTP) provides training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Massachusetts General Hospital. BWH provides the largest high-risk delivery experience to HNPFTP trainees.
The program takes full advantage of the four Harvard affiliated hospitals’ rich clinical, scientific, and higher education resources. Through a curriculum that emphasizes individual scholarly goals and clinical excellence, the Harvard Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Training Program prepares highly accomplished post-residency fellows for leadership roles in academic neonatal-perinatal medicine. Scholarly activity and research are carefully focused on each fellow's interests and with his or her career goals in mind, encompassing a broad range of cutting edge topics in basic and translation science, neonatal epidemiology and health services research, and clinical investigation. Highly engaged and experienced mentors both within the four institutions and in the broader Boston academic community ensure an outstanding clinical experience and a vibrant and productive environment for young investigators.
