Investigators in the Department of Pediatrics faculty have a broad range of research interests. There are, however, a few areas of concentrated research interest, including: cardiovascular, pulmonary, and integrated biology; developmental neuroscience; global newborn health; newborn genomic medicine; and nutrition for mothers and infants.
Neonatal Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, and Integrated Biology
Led by Mark Perella, MD, this research encompasses several laboratories focused on basic and translational scientific discoveries concerning pulmonary and cardiac disorders, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia and pulmonary hypertension. Pediatric, Newborn and Fetal Developmental Neuroscience
The work by this group of investigators encompasses studies primarily related to three areas: monitoring the newborn brain, imaging the fetal and newborn brain, and infant and child health neurodevelopmental outcomes. Global Advancement of Infants and Mothers (AIM)
Dr. Anne (CC) S. Lee leads efforts to study and improve health in under-resourced international settings. Currently, Dr. Lee and her team conduct study interventions intended to find ways to reduce preterm birth, predict complications such as fetal growth restriction, and improve outcomes of jaundiced infants. Newborn Genomic Medicine
Dr. Richard Parad is site investigator for the multi-center BabySeq project led by Drs. Robert Green and Alan Beggs that sequences more than 500 genes associated with serious disorders in the newborn period on a few drops of blood from babies enrolled in the study. Plans are underway to expand this genomic research endeavor through collaborations with investigators at neighboring Harvard-affiliated hospitals. Learn more about Newborn Genomic Medicine.
Nutrition for Mothers and Infants
