Education & Training

A total of 20 residents are currently enrolled in the PM&R residency training program. The residency is based at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and includes several rotations at BWH. A three-month rotation in the electromyography (EMG) laboratory is required for PGY-3 residents (within the Department of Neurology), and as a PGY-4 resident, trainees have two months of elective rotations, during which they can further enhance their EMG skills.

Internal medicine residents at BWH visit Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and are oriented to the field of PM&R by faculty members during this one-day visit. This program has been well-received and has been in operation for the past several years.

The HMS Department of PM&R sponsors a fellowship in spinal cord injury (SCI) medicine based at the Boston VA Hospital, with three SCI fellows annually. Fellows rotate at BWH as part of their training.

The HMS Department of PM&R also sponsors fellowships in pain management and sports medicine based at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
