Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

The members of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) strive to improve the health of persons with disabling conditions and/or pain through excellent clinical care, teaching, and original research. The division endeavors to:

  • Improve quality of life through interdisciplinary teamwork and medical management, psychological support, optimizing physical function, and environmental modification.
  • Provide and continuously improve clinical care throughout the community, in the home, for outpatients, in skilled nursing facilities, and in acute and rehabilitation hospitals.
  • Educate medical students, residents, fellows, practicing physicians, allied health professionals, and members of the community.
  • Perform research in the basic and rehabilitation sciences, covering the areas of pathology, impairment, functional limitation, disability, and health services for persons with impairments or disabilities.
  • Advocate for and with persons with disabilities and their families on issues that will enhance their independence.
