Harvard Mass General Brigham Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship

The Psychiatry, Law and Society Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital joins with Massachusetts General Hospital to offer the Harvard Mass General Brigham Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship. This one-year, full-time Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited training program offers a multifaceted approach designed to educate future leaders in the field of psychiatry and law in all areas of forensic psychiatric practice. Fellows participate in supervised clinical opportunities at multiple institutions that provide experience in both civil and criminal matters and education in evaluations, report writing, consultation, court testimony, and correctional care.

  • Rotations
  • Bridgewater State Hospital Forensic Service
  • Brigham and Women's Hospital Consult-liaison Service
  • Suffolk County House of Corrections
  • Mass General Hospital Law and Psychiatry Service
  • Anticipated rotations with courts and teams managing problematic sexual behaviors
  • Didactics

Among the many opportunities we provide for the fellow to experience conferences and three-to-five-day training programs both locally and nationally in forensic topics, we also have weekly didactics.

Over the summer, fellows participate in a series of individual boot camp sessions to get them up to speed on the Massachusetts criminal justice system and working in a forensic state hospital, including individual supervisions with clinical and forensic faculty.

Additionally, fellows receive weekly didactics through the Mass General Brigham Forensic Didactic series, covering a broad range of topics as well as a landmark case seminar covering major legal cases relevant to the practice of psychiatry.

Fellows also participate in the weekly Bridgewater State Hospital Forensic Didactic Series and the Brigham Resident Forensic Psychiatry Didactic Series.
