Preoperative Wire Localization

Preoperative Wire Localization Procedures

The BWH Lee Bell Center for Breast Imaging provides preoperative wire localizations at the hospital main campus. A preoperative wire localization is a procedure which uses imaging guidance to locate/mark breast abnormalities prior to surgery. Our technologists and radiologists use breast imaging equipment to produce high-quality images while focusing on patient safety and comfort.

Pre-authorization for Preoperative Wire Localization Procedures

Insurance companies may require pre-authorization for preoperative wire localizations to be performed. If you have questions regarding pre-authorization requirements, please call your breast surgeon’s office or the customer service number on the back of your insurance card. If pre-authorization is required, that process will be initiated by the breast surgeon who ordered your preoperative wire localization.
