Christou Lab: Clinical Practice in the NICU

Dr. Christou is an attending neonatologist in the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Her clinical activities include:

  • Providing consultation and advice to expectant parents of high risk infants such as those with congenital anomalies, syndromes or imminent premature delivery
  • Attending high risk deliveries in order to provide specialized care to the newborns from the very first moment after birth
  • Performing medically indicated invasive procedures in high risk newborns
  • Leading the health care team and overseeing the care of critically ill and convalescent neonates in the intensive care unit
  • Serving as consultant to general pediatricians in the well baby nurseries

These duties are performed during Dr. Christou’s scheduled daytime 'on clinical service' as well as during overnight and weekend 'on call' obligations.
