Christou Lab Neonatal Research

Dr. Christou performs clinical research in the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and directs her research laboratory at the Thorn Research Building of Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In addition, she participates as a mentor in the Summer Student Research Program sponsored by the Division of Newborn Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, in which BWH and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center also participate.

Our research activities include:

  • Clinical study of the role of Vitamin D deficiency in the development of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia
  • Clinical study of the importance of cord blood biomarkers in common conditions of adult onset
  • Study of the beneficial effects of acidosis in preclinical models of Pulmonary Hypertension
