Spinal Tumor Program

Patients with spinal tumors often require multidisciplinary care due to the complex structure of the spine and the delicate nerve tissues of the spinal cord. Treatment options for spinal tumors may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, medication, or a combination of therapies. If you or a family member has been diagnosed with a spinal tumor, you may not know where to begin in seeking treatment.

The Spinal Tumor Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital helps patients with spinal tumors easily access the multidisciplinary care they need. With a single call, we can assist in scheduling appointments with the appropriate physicians. We can also help schedule the necessary laboratory tests and imaging exams.

Our Spinal Tumor Program includes spine surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, and specialists in radiation therapy and palliative care from Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center. Our spine tumor experts meet weekly to develop and review treatment plans for individual patients with spinal tumors. Patients and their families can feel reassured knowing that their care has been developed by a team of spine experts who have considered all aspects of their care.

Our Program offers care for patients with all types of spinal tumors including metastatic spinal tumors, primary spinal tumors, and spinal cord tumors. We treat hundreds of patients with spinal tumors each year. Brigham and Women’s Hospital is consistently ranked as a top hospital by U.S. News & World Report. Our Program, located in the Hale Building for Transformative Medicine on our main campus, is one of the most advanced patient care facilities in the country. Our neurosurgery and orthopaedics specialists, along with state-of-the-art imaging and a dedicated phlebotomy clinic, are located in this state-of-the-art building, allowing patients to receive outpatient care in a single location. Our spine specialists are also members of the Comprehensive Spine Center, which brings together neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons and specialists in pain management, physical medicine, neurology, rheumatology and rehabilitation to provide multidisciplinary spine treatment.
