Division of Breast Surgery

The Division of Breast Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) includes an experienced team of surgeons who work closely with you and your family—as well as referring physicians and other breast specialists within BWH—to diagnose and treat the full spectrum of breast conditions, including breast cancer. They perform thousands of surgical procedures each year for women and men with breast concerns.

Under the leadership of Tari A. King, MD, our breast surgeons provide comprehensive care for patients with benign breast conditions and offer a specialized program for women at risk. In collaboration with Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center our surgeons care for patients diagnosed with all types and stages of breast cancer, including non-invasive and invasive, recurrent and advanced breast cancers. We offer specialty programs for young women, pregnant women, women with inflammatory breast cancer, women with metastatic cancer and for men with breast cancer.

Our breast surgeons are physician-scientists who also lead pioneering research studies across the continuum of careā€•from prevention and diagnosis to treatment and survivorship. Elizabeth A. Mittendorf, MD, PhD, oversees breast surgery research and is a national leader in the development of immunotherapy for breast cancer. The breast surgery research program aims to drive clinical innovation focused on four key priorities: prevention and early disease, patient-centered outcomes, tailored local regional therapy strategies, and tumor immunology. These efforts rely on a foundation of quality and value; training and educating the next generation of breast surgical oncologists; and management of our comprehensive biospecimen collection, which is essential to all our research.
