When Your Loved One is Transferred: What You Need To Know

Brigham and Women's Hospital is here to help when your loved one experiences a serious injury and is transferred to our Trauma and Burn Center.

What To Expect

Our expert trauma team will perform a complete evaluation and provide the most advanced treatment options available for your loved one. Please check-in at the Emergency Department reception desk upon arrival. Whenever possible, we will allow you to stay with your family member. A handbook to help you better understand the patient care process and cope during this difficult time will be provided to you.

Hospital Services

During evaluation and treatment of your loved one, many services are available to you:

  • The Bretholtz Center for Patients and Families is a comprehensive resource for your needs.
  • Social workers are available in the Emergency Department 24-hours-a-day, seven days per week.
  • Chaplaincy provides emotional, spiritual and religious support.
  • Interpreters are on hand to assist you with non-English speaking or hearing impaired needs.
  • Financial counselors can answer any questions pertaining to insurance coverage and medical payment arrangements.

Dining

Family and friends are encouraged to share meals with our patients whenever possible. There are also several dining options outside the patient room listed below:

BWH Cafe

Located on the 2nd floor next to the Tower elevators.

Hours: Daily Breakfast: 6:30 am - 10:30 am

Monday - Friday: 11:15 am - 11:30 pm (lunch, dinner, snacks)

Saturday - Sunday: 11:15 am - 2:30 pm (lunch, snacks); 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm (dinner, snacks)

Cafe Express

Located on the 2nd floor, inside the Cafe.

Hours: Monday - Friday: 6:15 am - 7:30 pm (Note: pizza and grinders available 11:30 am - 7:00 pm only)

Pat's Place

Provides grill food, sandwiches, salads. Located at the 15 Francis Street entrance in the Peter Bent Brigham Building.

Hours: Monday - Friday: 6:00 am - 5:00 pm

Au Bon Pain

Located at 75 Francis Street in the Schuster Lobby (the hospital's main lobby)

Hours: Monday - Saturday: 24 hours; Sunday: until 8:00 pm

Accommodations

Discounted lodging at area hotels is available if you need to stay overnight. You may also call the Patient/Family Relations Department at (617) 732-6636 for hotel information.

Parking

Valet parking is available at our main entrance at 75 Francis Street. Self-parking is available at the ServiCenter Garage, located on the corner of Francis Street and Brookline Avenue. Do not park in the un-metered parking spaces on the neighborhood streets surrounding the hospital unless you have a resident permit, as the city does ticket frequently.
