Crohn’s and Colitis Center Mind Body Medicine

Mind/body Medicine is well known for treating medical problems that were poorly addressed by conventional medical practice. The treatments offered by the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at the Crohn’s and Colitis Center visualize medicine as a three-pronged approach: pharmaceuticals, surgery/procedures and mind/body. We estimate that 60 to 90 percent of doctor visits are for conditions related to stress, which is why mind/body treatments, such as the relaxation response, nutrition, exercise and spirituality are a vital component of effective health care.

Our mind body programs treat patients with a combination of relaxation response techniques, proper nutrition, exercise, and reframing of negative thinking patterns. Clinical studies over the years have shown the effectiveness of these interventions on a wide range of medical problems caused or made worse by stress such as Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative colitis. One of the techniques pioneered by the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine and heavily utilized at the Crohn’s and Colitis Center has been termed the Relaxation Response resiliency Program or (3RP).
